Studio conference – Cube Creative & Xilam

Conférences . 17 Jun. 2022
Montpellier

Representatives from Cube Creative and Xilam came to meet students from Montpellier in the 4th year of the CG Animation and FX Master Degree, while students from other campuses were able to follow the conference via streaming.

This is not the first time that representatives of Cube Creative and Xilam have met with our students, and this meeting is almost traditional. For years, this company has regularly come to ESMA to meet future digital image professionals, who constitute a particularly interesting pool of knowledge. These meetings are also a mine of information for our students, who are always keen to receive sound advice.

The managers of this structure, based in Levallois-Perret in the Paris region for some twenty years, spoke about the recent merger between the studios Cube Creative and Xilam.

CUBE CREATIVE AND XILAM: A RECENT MERGER

Cube Creative specialises in 2D, CG and special effects. Founded by Lionel Fages, Majid Loukil and Bruno Le Levier, the studio specialises in short formats: short films, music videos and commercials, without neglecting long formats. Cube Creative is involved in a chain that extends from service provision to the creation of original products. As a result, it has close links with Canal + (Kaeloo series) or Arte (Athleticus), Pffirates (TF1). The studio is particularly interested in people who create stories in addition to the profile of an artist.

Xilam, a French production and distribution company (Zig & Sharko, Mr Magoo…) was created in 1999. A major player in animation, Xilam produces and distributes original programmes in more than 190 countries. Its productions are aimed at both youth and adult audiences.

Since January 2020, Xilam has acquired the majority of the capital and voting rights of Cube Creative. The two entities now work in symbiosis. This merger, synonymous with a new dimension, is the symbol of an increased openness to the international market.

AVENUES FOR OUR STUDENTS

The representatives of this new structure presented the studio, their place of professional life, answered the students’ questions, and evoked the projects carried by their structure.

In addition, the studio asked our students to present their end-of-study film project or even original creations with a view to developing them, why not – in the form of a series.

In concrete terms, advice and recommendations were also given to the students regarding employment, technical skills, as well as the recruitment process and the profiles sought: chara design, animation, storyboard.
This information is vital for our future professionals who wish to apply to Cube Creative and Xilam.

It was an open door, a call to action, and an important prerequisite a few months before they graduate.

All in all, these were exchanges rich in concrete lessons of all kinds.
