Graduation show 2022: the winners

During three intense days, the students of the class of 2022 in CG Animation & FX Master Degrees presented their films before an international panel of professionals at the end-of-studies jury. This year there were 27 films made by 210 students spread over our 4 campuses.

A PAGE IS TURNED, A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS…

Here we are. Four years have passed for our CG Animation & FX Master Degree students and here they are facing the long-awaited moment of presenting their graduation films to professionals and their families.

Our students were 210 to exhibit their films, coming from our four campuses (Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes and Toulouse). And what films! A total of 27 short films were shown and there was something for everyone: drama, action, humor, storytelling, music, magic…

The big moment took place on Thursday, September 8 at the Gaumont Multiplexe Montpellier, followed by an evening rich in emotions during which the prizes were distributed (see the results below in the article).

But the 3D jury is not only a meeting to have a good time, it is also the opportunity for our students to participate in the jobfair the next day. In all, no less than 1300 interviews took place on Friday. During a face-to-face meeting, students could present their demoreel (portfolio in video format) and talk to the studio representative in the hope of landing a job. We are confident that it won’t take long for our young graduates to join some of the biggest international studios in a few weeks or even months.

Once again, we would like to congratulate all of our students for their involvement and the quality of their work.

THE JURY

In all, more than 50 people, representing 28 studios, came to Montpellier to attend the graduation show for the class of 2022. It was the invaluable Shelley Page who had the honor of chairing the event. Shelley is a long-time friend of ESMA, having served on the graduation show for the past seventeen years. Her background, which includes more than twenty years as Head of International Outreach at Dreamworks (now at Locksmith Animation), makes her a key figure on the international CG animation scene. And to carry out her mission she was not alone since she could count on the support of prestigious studios that also made the trip with the objective of discovering – and recruiting – this new promotion. 1ST PRIZE: SWING TO THE MOON

In the forest, Temi, a little spider, dreams of catching the Moon. She will try everything to reach it.

2ND PRIZE: ROALD

Directed by : Clara Bigache, Laurent Chavalle, Julie Chêne, Thibault Chopinet, Armand Gaucheron, Alexis Lheureux, Maxime Prone.

Roald, a happy toad, is preparing his birthday and wants to impress his guests. Unfortunately, no one comes until the doorbell rings…

3RD PRIZE: TRAJECTORY

Directed by : Guillaume Beguin, Brice Esquer, NAthalie Hurtak, Noémie Layre, Serena Longo, Léon Rousseau, Allan Savarit-Bodin, Clément Wallez.

A character evolves in a strange and fascinating world. Traveling on his boat, he travels through this universe, constantly torn by the desire to leave the safe cocoon that is his boat…

PRIX COUP DE COEUR : FLAME

Directed by : Arthur Fornara, Damien Vales, Yoann Pardo, Cosmin Geangu, Lola Alons, Océane Papet, Clément Terras, Sylvain Rodriguez.

A lonely woodcarver finds no satisfaction in her work. One day, while trying to burn a failed sculpture, an apparition appears.

AUDIENCE AWARD: A COOKIE’S ADVENTURE

Directed by : Jérémie Amicone, Ileana Borzan, Myriam Lecomte, Margot Lemasçon, Camille Triponney, Zoé Rivera, Alexis Bleusez, Romain Tersigni.

Dimitri, valiant cookie knight, goes on an adventure to recover the heart of the cookie princess. But his mission will be full of pitfalls and he will have to cross strange sweet lands.
