News . 20 Jul. 2020

For its 10th edition, the long-awaited results of the 2020 Rookies Awards competition have just come in, and once again the film Œil pour Œil stands out as the winner in the “Film of the Year – 3D animation” category!

THE ROOKIES AWARDS, A PRIZED COMPETITION WITH WORLDWIDE RECOGNITION

The Rookies Awards competition has been running for ten years now. This international event is designed to bring together students from all the best schools in the fields of special effects, video games, virtual reality, CG animation and motion design. This competition, recognized by all professionals, also aims to allow these young talents to shine and launch their careers through the sharing of their work.

Each year the competition gains in intensity and the students show creativity and excellence to stand out. Thus, for this new edition, no less than 3,769 entries from 524 schools in 88 countries were received, for a total of 58,552 works submitted!

Numerous professionals from the above-mentioned sectors are working together to select the best projects. Several criteria were taken into account: creative and technical skills, presentation, complexity of the rendering…

A FURTHER SUCCESS TO THE BRILLIANT SUCCESS OF THE SHORT FILM Œil pour Œil

And among this mass of competing resources, the film Œil pour Œil stood out in one of the competition’s flagship categories: “Film of the Year – 3D Animation“, taking the place of the grand winner!

This short film thus obtains additional recognition, adding to the long list of its selections at numerous festivals around the world and its titles already conquered at Spark Animation, Short of the year festival and Aniwow. An additional consecration for this team and not the least!

And as a prize, the film team won 5 Houdini licenses by Side fx for two years and a complete Zbrush sculpting pack by FlippedNomals. A nice gift for these young professionals.

Thus, Œil pour Œil was able to shine among no less than 33 other finalists in the running (13 of which were from ESMA!).

WHAT ARE “THE ROOKIES”?

The vocation of this platform is to allow digital artists, whether professional or not, to exhibit their work and build up a portfolio. The basis is collaborative and not competitive. It is also to allow young people to get information about this industry and to be able to go there with a maximum of information.

In addition, the objective is to allow all the actors (amateurs, students, schools, professionals…) to be able to exchange around the CG animation and special effects sector.
