Produced by talented members of the Class of 2023, the short film Coquille has been selected for the prestigious FOYLE FILM FESTIVAL, a world-renowned event held every year in the UK!
A prestigious honour for ESMA
The FOYLE FILM FESTIVAL, recognised as a gateway to the Oscars and BAFTAs, is a key event celebrating excellence in cinema. It showcases the work of both young talent and seasoned artists. The selection of Coquille in this prestigious setting underlines its high technical level and narrative strength, confirming its excellence.
Coquille: an epic journey through the calanques
In this moving and gripping short film, Bernard, a hermit crab tied to his shell, finds himself thrown into the unknown after being swept away by a seagull. Set down on a beach overrun by tourists, he crosses paths with Morice, a small, malformed crab sheltering under a bottle cap. Together, they brave the dangers of a hostile environment full of rubbish and natural obstacles. This shared quest becomes a journey of initiation, where Bernard discovers the value of helping others and the courage to go beyond his limits.
Filmed in the luminous atmosphere of the calanques, Coquille is distinguished by its refined aesthetic and poignant narrative. As well as telling the story, the film also draws the viewer’s attention to environmental issues, combining poetry and awareness-raising.
The fruit of the collaboration of Justine Aubert, Cassandra Bouton, Grégoire Cailles, Maud Chesneau, Anna Danton, Loïc Girault, Gatien Payrude and Justine Raux, all students at ESMA (class of 2023), Coquille embodies their creativity, passion and technical mastery. A collective work that is now shining on the international stage.
