Toulouse

Julien Fournet is a director at the TAT Prod studio in Toulouse, and is responsible for the feature film Pil, due for release in 2021. He came to meet our CG Animation & Special Effects students to present the studio and the work he does there. The opportunity for him to give us an exclusive interview!

BEHIND THE SCENES OF A FEATURE FILM

The TAT studio is best known for its hit TV series Les As de la jungle. In recent years, however, the studio has opened up to feature-length productions for the cinema. And who better to talk about this than a film’s own director?

And so it was that Julien Fournet, director and screenwriter of Pil, due for release in 2021, gave a talk to students of CG Animation and FX Master Degree. It was a particularly enriching meeting for our students, who were able to gain an insight into the making of such a project.

All the stages were covered, including preparatory research, feasibility tests, storyboarding, editing approvals, voice and dialogue work… Without hiding anything, Julien Fournet also discussed the constraints and problems encountered, and the means used to overcome them.

The students were very curious, and didn’t hesitate to question the director to find out more. In this way, they were able to delve deeper into the differences between working in series and feature film format, the software used, the links between broadcaster – producer – distributor and the writing process.

Finally, Julien Fournet spent the afternoon meeting one-on-one with groups of final-year students to discuss their graduation films.

A day rich in learning and discussion!
