Large format workshop in Nantes

School . 04 Mar. 2022
Prépa Entertainment / Nantes

Students from the Prépa Entertainment class took part in a Grand Format workshop in Nantes, during which they were able to create a fresco on the school’s walls. Here is a look at this creation in text and images.

THE OBJECTIVES

Adeline Fonknechten is a teacher in Nantes for the Prépa Entertainment classes. During the week she offered a workshop entitled “Gesture & movement: trace, imprint, motif and other creative processes”. The students were asked to observe, imitate, experiment and compose with the gestures of the great artists of Abstraction.

THE STAGES OF THE WORKSHOP

Using elements borrowed from Abstract Art artists, the students thought about creating a large-scale black and white fresco. Grouped in teams, they followed a process of reflection in order to appropriate the universes of the reference artists. With “large format” tools created by themselves and, following plastic experiments, the students set up processes and gestures to create a relevant “raw material”: four-handed brushes, paint jets, paper of different sizes… They worked on the concepts of large/small, unique/multiple… in order to create a fresco composed of different formats.

Finally, the fresco was installed on three walls of the school, accompanying the journeys of the campus inhabitants. This workshop allowed the students to work in teams on a large-scale creative project, to question the tools to be used and to invent their own. During the last stage, they were able to think together about how to compose the fresco, working on the angles, positions, heights, etc.

A great team work to dress the walls of the school!
