Studio conference – Cube Creative & Xilam

MEETING WITH A CREATIVE PARISIAN ANIMATION STUDIO

Regular speakers, Lionel Fages and Audrey Serre – respectively co-founder and deputy director of development of the studio Cube Creative – are well known figures within ESMA since they have been visiting our students for many years. This time they were not able to physically visit the campuses, but they still wanted to meet the future generations of digital image specialists. Thus, they organized a digital conference, bilingual French / English since the campus of Lyon has several international students, to present the studio and the projects conducted.

This meeting was an opportunity for these professionals to emphasize what they are looking for, namely technical skills and the art of storytelling. The Cube Creative studio has the singularity to be also a carrier of original productions. The studio is particularly interested in people who create stories in addition to being artists.

Lionle and Audrey have focused on 2D and CG productions, allowing them to recruit a wide range of professions. Indeed, Cube Creative is very active, producing and directing several original projects, including first short films. For example, the studio has offered its chance to directors Rémi Chapotot, Nicolas Deveaux, Tristan Michel, Philippe Roland or William Hoareau. Moreover, every year the studio strongly invites our students to come and present their final film project or even original creations with the possible aim of developing it into a series.

Finally, as the students are fond of technology, Lionel and Audrey discussed the software they use for their productions as well as the different jobs offered. The studio has several functions since, in addition to their own productions, they take care of the manufacturing of projects for others. Two ways of proceeding which do not imply the same ways of working.

Of course, advice was given to the students for their job search and especially if they wish to join their studio. The conclusion of the meeting was made on the traditional questions / answers which allowed to approach the question on the telecommuting (current events oblige), the various productions and the constitution of the teams on these, the typologies of profiles sought or still the computer languages used.

WHO ARE CUBE CREATIVE & XILAM STUDIOS?

Cube Creative is a studio based in Levallois-Perret and working in 2D, CG and special effects. Three partners are at the origin of its creation: Lionel Fages, Majid Loukil and Bruno Le Levier. The studio specializes mainly in short formats: short films, music videos, commercials, series… but is also working on long formats. The studio proposes two types of actions: service provision or creation of original products. The studio collaborates with big names like Canal +, with the series Kaeloo, or Arte with the series Athleticus.

For its part, Xilam, a French production and distribution company (we can mention Oggy and the cockroaches, Zig & Sharko, Mr Magoo…) was created in 1999. A major player in the animation industry, Xilam produces and distributes original programs in over 190 countries. Its productions are as much for young people as for adults. The magnificent film J’ai perdu mon corps was even nominated for an Oscar. For the past year and a half, Xilam has joined Cube Creative, giving it a new dimension by allowing it to open the doors to international markets.
